When a dear friend of mine announced she was getting married in Rarotonga we immediately agreed to go – baby in tow – and this is the story of how we survived the 3-4 hour flight there and back again.

Before I start, I just have to say that travelling anywhere by flight with a child is stressful. It’s stressful for your child, stressful for your fellow passengers, stressful for you as a parent, stressful for the flight crew, BUT, if you have the chance to travel I think you should take it.
Travel isn’t a given. It isn’t something that everyone is lucky to experience, and I reminded myself of this often when things got a little tough. Continue reading

Treasure Baskets

Hands up if you knew what treasure baskets were BEFORE kids? Yeah, me neither…

I was first introduced to the idea of “treasure baskets” at our space group.
It seemed to me like someone jacked the old fashioned idea that kids don’t need much more than a wooden spoon and some pots to have a good time am I right!? I mean, kids love to explore their world and the whole treasure basket thing has taken that premise and made it an academic idea. Regardless, I love the idea of Mackenzie exploring everyday items and figuring out the differences between hard, soft, cold, warm, smooth and rough etc.

Ugh, I cant craft to save myself… The space group that we went to had weekly crafts which kind of got me started. I mean, I figure that kids toys are so expensive, if you can make a couple things they’ll have a bit of variety and it won’t mean re-mortgaging the house!
